It explicitly says in FoR that the Sigma Octonus enounter was first human contact with Hunters. Though I do agree about the Scarbs only being pulled out for BIG things (like Earth for example....)

You hit the nail on the head Saviour. Yes we have no evidence of these things NOT existing pre-Halo CE. However, we have no evidence indicating that they DID exist. Yet, here they are on the screen, its quite understandable that people are a bit miffed.  So, all Enselmble and Bungie have to do is explain it and give us our canon evidence, ...

Guys, you're over-compensating, and frankly it's funny. I like the game. I'm going to buy the game. I just hope it respects the story thats all. And we don't know for sure either way right now (though I highly doubt Bungie wouldn't make them)

I suppose... or you could say that they're raping the story.  Though I wouldn't personally go that far myself  ;)  As a Halo fanboy since IT was an RTS, I'll be the first in line to get this sucker, but as i posted in another thread, it just feels like a betrayal of the source material. Whilst you are 100% correct in that technically there are no logical contradictions in what we've been presented with so far... I just think it's a bit silly to have so many possible differences from the novels and original game. If you only saw the trailer it would appear as though this is taking place in the Halo 3 time period, ...
