Spartan R41: I didn't see a date on it, so I don't know when it was supposed to take place. Spartans receive MJOLNIR Mk.V armor, the first to incorporate shields, a mere 24 or so hours before the battle of Reach begins, and as I recall, spend almost all of that time preparing for their special mission about the Pillar of Autumn.

Spartan R41: I had a theory that it's possible the Booster Frames extended the Spartans' MJOLNIR shields, as they were "plugged in," at the back. It's possible. But at this stage, the Spartans shouldn't have shields either. :(
